Frequently Asked Questions

Is cosmetic tattooing safe?

Yes, the pigments used in cosmetic tattooing are inert iron oxides which have been used in traditional tattooing and make-up for years. All equipment is sterilized or used one time and disposed of after each procedure. Today's techniques and strict health laws make the risk of communicable disease non-existent. There is no risk of infection when the procedure has been done correctly and properly cared for during healing.

Are permanent cosmetics right for me?

Personally, I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from having permanent cosmetics. Imagine waking up and looking great 24 hours a day. Whether you are 18- or 90-years-old, being able to always look your best helps build our inner self and give us a greater sense of well-being. Cosmetic tattooing also has a very positive psychological value. Whether the reason is medical or personal, cosmetic tattooing substantially increases confidence and self-worth.

How much does cosmetic tattooing cost?

The price varies depending upon the procedure. Eyebrows, eyeliner, and lipliner have set prices. Scars and other reconstructive procedures vary depending on the amount of work to be done. Please call us at (503) 646-5478 to come in for a free consultation and get an accurate quote.

Can I choose the shape I want?

Absolutely! But if you need help, we will be able to make suggestions and help you make a choice that best fits your face shape and accentuates your unique qualities.

How is cosmetic tattooing done?

With the use of a needle, pigment is inserted under the skin to produce a permanent mark. You just have to sit back and relax during the procedure itself.

Is the procedure painful?

Methods of controlling discomfort during permanent cosmetic application have come a long way. Today's over-the-counter topicals used during application make the procedures very tolerable. Many clients feel just vibrations while others say they feel nothing at all. Most clients will come for one procedure and eventually have others.

How long does the procedure take?

The actual working time is very short, however with preparations and conversation a procedure will take between two and two and a half hours. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled 30 to 90 days afterward.

Will I have to take off work?

No, there is minimum swelling and redness. Ice is used to reduce swelling and an antibiotic or a healing ointment is used for several days.

How long does it take to heal?

Immediately after the procedure and during healing, the tattooed area appears darker than the final color. The initial healing takes three to five days. During this time the area will begin to flake and peel similar to a sunburn. The secondary healing is when the pigment settles into the skin over a period of three to four weeks, occasionally longer.

What is the care during healing?

Common sense, keep it clean. Do not pick or scratch the area. Wash the area with warm water then lightly coat with the recommended medicated ointment for five days.

How long does a permanent cosmetic application last?

This procedure is permanent, although some clients experience fading after one to three years due to UV exposure. Every persons skin is different. Some hold color for many years and others will need to return more often for a touch-up procedure called maintenance.
